Course overview
This is a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ), a Level 5 qualification quality marked as meeting national employer-led standards. It is aligned to the Network Engineer occupational standard, equipping learners with the higher technical knowledge and skills needed to install, configure, maintain and secure physical and virtual networks.
The qualification covers core areas of modern network engineering, including network architecture, routing and switching, cloud and cloud services, network security and diagnostics, alongside contemporary approaches such as Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) and Zero-trust networking. Learners also develop the professional understanding expected in the workplace, from service level agreements and business continuity to compliance with relevant policies and legislation.

Entry requirements
- Aimed at learners progressing to higher technical study, typically aged 18 and above.
- As a Level 5 HTQ, learners would usually have relevant prior attainment at Level 3, and may have progressed through Level 4 study.
- A background or interest in IT, networking or cyber security is beneficial.
- Sound English and maths skills are expected to support study at this level.
